Microsoft Office Access is relational database from Microsoft. It uses the Microsoft Jet Database Engine combined with a Graphical User Interface and is a very handy database that is used for many applications.
Advanced users can use Access to interact with higher end databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. It can also be used to build relatively simple applications and this can be done by relatively unskilled programmers.
For websites, Access is frequently used as the source of dynamic content for the site, however this is only recommended if you have a relatively small site with a limited amount of traffic. Unlike databases such as MS SQL and MySql, Access can often struggle with a heavy user load. An Access Database will also grow in physical size faster than other databases and can suffer from performance issues because of this.
